If you look at things around the world....especially when it comes to the time before radio, television, and, of course, the internet...it seems that there are a whole lot of cultures that supposedly had no contact with far flung others that seem to have independently created the same images. One of the most iconic images, that is world-wide, is the pyramid. From Giza to Mexico to India and many places in between. In addition to the existing true pyramids there are also mounds and raised platforms , that some consider to be forms of pyramids in many other places as well. There are even depictions of creatures at ancient sites that some argue are representation of dinosaurs or other extinct creatures that supposedly the artisans would have no knowledge of. Of these mythical creatures, one of the most beloved is the unicorn. In modern romanticize versions this majestic creature has all the characters of a horse with a spiral shaped horned. But what is the actual basis for the unicorn? In the Old Testament of the Bible, there are up to 5 verses that use the word unicorn to describe a beast , either metaphorically or realistically. Time is a cycle of beginnings and endings, ups and downs, dawns and dusks. Civilizations have arisen out of nothing and descended into oblivion. Empires have conquered the known world and crumbled to rubble. Peoples have traveled beyond the edge of the world and disappeared from history. However, just like you cannot stop the march of time it seems that you cannot completely and totally destroy history either. It can be broken and shattered and scattered into the darkness, but it still remains. It will be found, the only question will be how long it takes to share its secrets and reveal the truth. The last factor that we will discuss that leads to most errors, limits and misunderstanding within the pursuit of historical knowledge is change. What do I mean by change? Maybe another word could be movement. Both change and movement impact where and how we live and settle and grow. Man has not always lived as we do today. Nor has man always lived in just one location, even 'civilized' man, and certainly not the hunter-gather ancestors of the Stone Age. As the title implies we are going to discuss two 'natural' events that have HUGE impact on human location, movement, and lifestyle.
